Victoria has years of experience in student government, and years to go.

Victoria Vera was planning ahead when she decided to run for Associated Student Body (ASB) office. “I chose to go into student government because it was something that would help me to stay involved at school, while still being able to make friendships along the way,” she said. She knew this because she had been in student government first when she was in the fourth grade. She plans to stay in student government for years to come, even in college.

Now, she is serving as the Secretary for the Class of 2023. “I mostly just get meetings together, take notes on things we need to work on, and I help others out with things that they may not know about what we’re doing,” Vera said. “I was interested in this position because I’m a very organized person and I like to keep everyone else on track as well as help them out.”

Student government is not the only commitment Vera has made to the school and the community. She is a member of the Around the World Club, Filipino Club, and S-Club, and plays soccer. “I am also trying to get into UC Davis Educational Talent Search,” she said. She also plays varsity volleyball, which is her favorite hobby.

“A lot of people in my family play sports like me and I have definitely looked up to them,” she said. “No matter how bad I was at something new, I always knew that I could get better if I worked as hard as they did.”

She also said that she admires her aunts and uncles who have gone to amazing colleges and done great things. “I just hope that one day I could be as great as they are at what they do,” she said.

“I believe that leadership gives off a lot of amazing vibes, and I just wish that other students would realize that and would want to be involved in something so great,” Vera said.

If she could see a change in student behavior, it would have to do with students’ will to learn. “I always see students ditching class or doing things they shouldn’t be doing, and I believe that they should want to learn something new every day and really be amazed by what they can do and comprehend,” she said.

Her own goal to learn involves attending a UC or Ivy League university to pursue a career in the medical field. She wants to become an RN in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or a labor and delivery nurse.
