Her first year at Armijo is a new adventure

Ms. Kelly Stewart is a new addition to the Armijo High School staff, but she isn’t new to education. She has been teaching for seven years and was a principal of a very small private school. “I am very excited to be a new teacher at Armijo,” she said. “Everyone is so friendly and welcoming!”

As a graduate from California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) with a Bachelor’s and a Master of Arts Degree, Ms. Stewart was ready to finish the first two years of her Doctoral degree in Hawaii. “The first five years of my teaching career I taught at a large high school on the island of Oahu before returning to Southern California where I taught for one year in the High Desert,” she said.

Ms. Stewart had moved to Fairfield from Durham, but she almost moved to Sacramento where she would end up taking the train to work every single day. “I feel fortunate to have found a house for rent in the area,” she said.

A couple of her favorite hobbies are binge-watching Netflix, making “a mean cup of coffee,” and exploring hiking paths in Solano County. She has recently started growing a vertical garden in her backyard patio. Her favorite things are coffee, reading a great book, and relaxing at the beach.

This year, Ms. Stewart is teaching Spanish 2 and 3 to sophomores, juniors and seniors. “The intention I would like to spread is to “not taking things personally,” because nine times out of ten, someone else’s behavior is a reflection of how they are feeling and what they might be going through and has nothing to do with you personally,” she said.

Ms. Stewart was enthusiastic to kick off the new school year virtually. “We’re going to have a lot of fun and get a lot more tech savvy!”
