“ASB stands for Associated Student Body and it is important because as officers we hold the ability to make a positive impact on our community through the events we put on.” – Leah Patel
I spoke to Leah Patel who is the ASB treasurer. She told me her main responsibility is to sign papers when needed, but her main responsibility is running her committee and guiding other leadership students to grow as leaders through event planning. Leah Patel is a senior and has been in leadership all of her time in high school. She joined because her sister inspired her to join and become a better leader. According to Leah Patel, the best part about being in leadership is the friends we make as a class and the impact we have on the community.
That doesn’t mean it’s all easy though. It can be a challenge to make sure the event is not just planned but also a process of growing as leaders. On a personal level, Leah Patel has enjoyed being a senior and thinks that being a freshman or a senior is the same but different. She says, “I don’t feel like a senior at times but I think it hits me when an underclassman is asking for help or I’m experiencing an event for the last time.”
