High school can be a whirlwind of academic pressures, social dynamics, and the general chaos of adolescence, making it a critical time for mental health awareness. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by students today, this article delves into the importance of open dialogues and support systems surrounding mental health well-being on campus. To gain a firsthand perspective, I spoke with two students who shared their experiences and advice into deeper information during their own or observed challenges.
As I grew older I’ve always heard the words “Mental health matters” but never really took action until I finally understood how important being unstable is in society. I have always been an observant person and noticed how the little signs or body language in someone can mean something so deep so I am making this article to spread awareness or raise my voice for those who may be struggling.
Furthermore, I interviewed two freshman students on Armijo High’s campus and what they both said was how we need to dismantle the way parents may not be so understanding or open-minded with their child’s emotions. A specific quote from one of the students with the name of Emily Mendez Ponce states, “We should dismantle the fact that parents may think or assume there children’s mental health is always going to be oksy and that the child is overexaggerating because you can go through something big at such a young age.”

Therefore, this basically means how maybe not only parents but anybody in general should always be open towards someone’s own emotions.
Another quote a fellow Armijo student (Charles Terry) has given me was “subtle signs you can see in an individual who is struggling with battles is them being overly stressed or just not being their true selves. You can really tell, especially when you know the person.” Additionally, studies also show that somebody’s well-being not being 100% can be effective to there academic performance. Although school is good for learning and may provide resources to seek help, it also has a negative effect. You are expected to be absolutely outstanding which can apply pressure onto someone’s shoulders.
In conclusion, this information can be really helpful to know because it is important to look out for others and help those in need for help when in a dark time in their lives.
