Anne Aguilar, Staff writer
I didn’t grow up in California. I grew up in the Philippines for almost my whole life, until July of 2018.
I was born on September 13, 2008. Moving here was a really big change – new language, new people, and environment – but I learned to adapt after a while. I played volleyball in 8th grade and plan to play again during my sophomore year. I enjoy listening to music, especially music by Conan Gray, lV of Spades, and Eraserheads. I also enjoy reading books with good LGBT+ representation, such as Here’s to Us by Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli, or They Both Die at the End” by Adam Silvera.
I discovered my liking for writing during the middle of the pandemic. I started by writing little research papers; then I started writing poems as a form of coping and decided to take journalism. Writing most of the time makes me feel calm and focused, and it makes me feel nice about myself. I’m a freshman in high school and I hope to become a better writer in the future.
