Friday, May 19, Armijo hosted its annual Lynne Lee’s Annual Prom for Special Education students around Solano County.

It was a great success, thanks to the Leadership helpers, parents, and Special Ed teachers. This year over 100 students show up and dress out for the event.

It was more than dancing for the attendees that morning as they were also able to participate in games like corn hole and spike ball, and enjoy a photo booth. While these events took place in the large gym on Armijo’s campus, the small gym had an assortment of snacks (popcorn, cheese sticks, bananas, water, and more), the T-4 classroom had hair stylists available, and the health room served as a sensory room for the event. Not only that, there was a table full of corsages and boutonnieres where the students could choose their favorite, and the guests were handed out a goody bag after the dance.

This year’s theme was “Enchanted Forest” and the gym was filled with wall decorations, fairy lights, and greenery vines. A line of greeters stood at the entrance as the guests walked into the gym. From start to finish, Leadership students were helping and mingling with the guests.

This year, Ms. Haley Duncan, who works at several schools in the district, made sure that the event was going well and as planned.

This event started nearly 30 years ago as a Spring Fling for students enrolled in adaptive physical education. “Under the direction of retired adaptive PE teacher Lynne Lee, the event is the highlight of the school year for many of those who attend,” said Ms. Amy Maginnis-Honey in an article in The Daily Republic.

Overall, this year’s dance was a great success thanks to the prom goers, the advisors, and the leadership kids who helped make the event a great success.
