Have you ever had the true freshman year experience? If you did, how did it feel? Most freshmen recall the freshman experience as fun and memorable. At Armijo, that first year is a mix of excitement, nerves, and figuring things out. Walking onto campus for the first time can feel overwhelming. Everything is bigger, louder, and faster than what most new freshmen are used to. There are new schedules to follow, different teachers for every class, and a whole new group of people to meet. For many freshmen, the first few weeks are all about adjusting to learning where classes are, getting used to your homework, and understanding how high school works. Even simple things like finding your way around campus or knowing where to sit at lunch can feel like a big deal in the beginning. One of the biggest parts of freshman year is meeting new people. Walking into a new school can feel intimidating at first, but it also gives you a chance to start fresh. As Emily shared, “talking and meeting new people and making connections” was the most memorable part of her year. Another student also mentioned “being more social” as something that stood out, showing how important it is to put yourself out there or at least talk to new people. For a lot of students, those small conversations in class, group projects, or even just sitting next to someone new at lunch can turn into friendships. Overtime, those friendships become what makes school enjoyable and something to look forward to every day. Freshman year is also a time where students begin to discover who they are. In middle school, many students are used to being around the same people every day. High school changes that by introducing more different people with different interest, backgrounds, and personalities. This gives freshmen the chance to explore new things, whether it’s joining a club, trying out for a sports team, or joining in on school events. It’s a year full of opportunities, and those who take advantage of them should have the most memorable experiences. At the same time, not everything is how people expect it to be. Many students come into high school with certain stereotypes. Movies, TV shows, and stories from older students make high school seem like a place full of strict teachers and social groups that are hard to break into. Isolde admitted, “I thought there would be more groups,” showing that the reality is actually different. Friend groups do exist, they are just more flexible and open than expected. However, not every student feels the same way. One student pointed out that “the environment everybody stays to themselves and are less social,” showing that experiences can be different depending on the person. For some students its easy to connect, while others may feel like people keep to themselves more than expected. Another challenge freshmen face is responsibility. High school includes more independence, but also with higher expectations. Students are responsible for keeping track of their assignments, studying for tests, and managing their time. This can be stressful at first, especially for those who are not used to having so much responsibility. However, as the year goes on, many freshmen learn how to stay organized and develop better study habits hopefully. These skills not only help them do good in school but also prepare them for the future. Other than school work, freshman year is filled with new experiences that shape students in different ways. From attending their first high school football game to participating in school dances, these moments give good memories to whoever. Even small experiences, like laughing with friends in class or getting through a tough test, can become memorable over time. These are the moments that students look back on when they think about their first year of high school. Looking back, students who have gone through freshman year often have advice for the next group coming in. Emily keeps it simple: “to have fun and don’t be scared to try new things.” That advice really shows what freshman year is all about. Trying new things can feel uncomfortable at first, but it can lead to the best experiences. Whether it’s joining a new club, talking to someone new, or stepping outside of your comfort zone, these actions can make a big difference in how enjoyable the year becomes. In conclusion Freshmen year is definitely memorable, With all good and bad things that come with it i think if theres one thing u look back at from your highschool years and experience it would be freshmen year, I hope everyone who is a freshmen or had it remembers it as one of the best experiences of their high school years or even in their lives.
