Festival of Light brightens the day

“October 24 was Diwali (Festival of Lights) or Dipawali. This is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avail) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.

The festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians. Over the centuries, Diwali has become a national festival that’s also enjoyed by non-Hindu communities.” (FSUSD Facebook)

On Diwali, the International Club gathered together to share this cultural event with students by painting henna tattoos and explaining the celebration. Club adviser Ms. Vanessa Walling-Sisi shared these pictures on Facebook.
