Now a senior, Azucena takes on the ultimate challenge of editing for The Signal.

This is my second year involved in journalism. I was a reporter for my junior year and now serve as the editor for the Senior News section.

I have really enjoyed reporting on different topics for the last year. Being able to report on different events and share my opinions in different ways is something I really enjoy. I decided to join journalism because one of my best friends was writing for the paper and told me I should give it a shot. There are so many upsides and downsides to writing. Some of my upsides are that it has made me a better writer, I am able to use my voice and share my opinion and I am able to create something. The downside of writing is writer’s block. This happens once in a while and it can make writing such a struggle but when I get over writer’s block, I am able to create really great articles.

I decided to give being an editor and reporter a shot this year. As a senior who is graduating in the spring, I wanted to be able to write more before I say goodbye to high school. Now being an editor, it’s a whole new world! I’ve learned so much, from the basics of how to upload stories to making the information look more appealing.

I have enjoyed writing and will continue to write even after I graduate all thanks to finding the love of writing.
