You could spend a lifetime looking for the right hobby, or you could just do it!

Almost everybody has a hobby, because there are so many to choose from that everyone would want to do at least one of them in their free time.

A hobby is an activity or pastime that one partakes in during free time. There are thousands of hobbies and all of them fit into at least one of the following four categories:

  • General hobbies, like photography and baking
  • Collecting hobbies,  hobbies where you collect things, like coins or stuffed hippos
  • Competitive hobbies, like karate, hockey, and poker
  • Observation hobbies, like reading, fishkeeping, and bird watching

Some of the most common hobbies are fishing, arts and crafts, birdwatching, collecting, gardening, and playing video games.

Some unusual hobbies are competitive dog grooming, soap carving, tape art making, and trainspotting.

Some hobbies can be very expensive, like golfing because golf clubs and golf gear in general is really expensive.

Horseback riding is another pretty common sport that is very expensive because it requires very specific items, including a horse, and upkeep for a horse is very expensive.

Travel is also a very expensive hobby, but those expenses can vary greatly depending on the destination. Traveling around California in a camper will be substantially less expensive than traveling around the world on a yacht.

If you don’t have a hobby yet, you might want to get started looking. There are plenty of options, you are sure to figure out something.
