Show your teachers your gratitude!
Teacher Appreciation Day – May 2
Teachers play a significant role in the education system. Most of our favorite professors from years and years of schooling are still fresh in our minds. Even though there are other ways to express gratitude, teachers are honored on a specific day, Teacher Appreciation Day.
This year, Teacher Appreciation Day happens on Tuesday, May 2. On this day, students may express gratitude to their teachers even more because of the effort they put in every day, often going unrecognized.
In 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt convinced the 81st Congress to declare National Teachers’ Day. It was celebrated on March 7 until 1984, when it was changed to a weeklong celebration in May, organized by the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA). They determined that teachers deserved to be recognized for at least a week, not just one day. So, the nation’s first Teacher Appreciation Week officially began.
Armijo will be honoring its teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week with special events and specific themes. Throughout the week, students are encouraged to give teacher something to remember, because a teacher’s role goes far beyond the classroom.
Teacher Appreciation can be extended to those teachers in our lives that are not necessarily in the classroom. It might be a friend, a family member, or a mentor—anyone who is looked up to or who teaches life lessons.

Those who are unsure as to how to honor the teachers in their lives can visit National Today for ideas. This is a chance to show gratitude and respect toward those who have spent the year trying to help others succeed and be the best versions of themselves!
