A writer by heart and newest editor, Maya Adimora
Hello! My name is Maya Adimora. I am a sophomore at Rodriguez High School and the new Beyond the Gates Editor for the Armijo Signal. Hopefully, I will retain this position for other years, too.
I honestly never planned to become a staff writer for The Armijo Signal in my freshman year. I didn’t even know the newspaper existed until district-wide extracurriculars became a thing in January. But, once I saw this was journalism-related, all my doubts disappeared. I didn’t do much reading or writing during distance learning, so this was the perfect opportunity to get back into the swing of things. I wrote and procrastinated as much as I could, and that won’t change. No promises, though.
I really am honored to be chosen as an editor, despite my lack of experience. (If you read my profile, you’ll see that I didn’t partake in extracurriculars until freshman year).
Writing has always been a huge passion of mine. That’s why one of the few concrete plans I have for life after high school is publishing a book. So, holding a “leadership position”; like this brings me one step closer to my dream through publishing articles.
This opened my eyes to the possibility of going down the journalism career path or just writing in general, and it means a lot to me knowing I can do something I love and put out something for others to learn from and enjoy.
“For a second, I was thinking that I might write 5 articles this time. Then I reminded myself that I'm weak and can't handle it.”
