Teacher Feature: Mr. Martinez
This school year, Armijo High welcomed many new teachers to the campus. One of these great additions to the faculty is Mr. Martinez, a biology teacher in R-2. Mr Martinez studied at UC Davis, and received his degree in Entomology. When asked what that sophisticated word meant, Mr. Martinez chuckled and explained that it is the study of insects. As his first year teaching, Mr. Martinez seems to really enjoy his time here at Armijo. He loves the science department, and enjoys all his interactions with the faculty and students. His favorite part of teaching is seeing kids who initially were uninterested in a topic actually become interested.
Mr. Martinez decided that he would pursue teaching because he enjoyed kids and he knew he could do it well. His prior experience working with kids includes running educational programs at both the Oakland and Sacramento Zoos. He interestingly mentioned that both his parents are teachers.
Other than teaching students biology here at Armijo, Mr. Martinez shows interest in numerous hobbies. He plays a multitude of wind instruments. Impressively, while in school he wrote music for shows as part of the band program at UC Davis. He likes hanging out with his dog and taking him for walks. A few of Mr. Martinez’s favorite shows are iZombie, Parks & Rec, and Westworld. In addition, he is a big fan of board games and card games.
Armijo High School welcomes Mr. Martinez, and is glad to have him as part of the amazing faculty at our school!

Their coordinated shirts, painted by ASB officers in the past years, become a highlight of the event as students stop to take photo with them.
