Combine healthy food and exercise for the best results.

In 2013, a group called “Action for Healthy Kids” created Every Kid Healthy Week to celebrate school health and wellness achievements. As obesity now affects 1 in 5 children and adolescents in the United States (CDC), it is more important than ever to promote nutrition and physical activity.

Everyone is welcome to join! Every Kid Healthy Week usually takes place in the last week of April. This year, the weeklong event takes place from April 26 to 30, whether done virtually or live. However, families are encouraged to participate at home due to the pandemic. Each day is themed around an aspect of “Child Health Focus.” The schedule is as follows:

  • Mindful Monday teaches about Social-Emotional Health.
  • Tasty Tuesday advocates for Nutrition and Food Access.
  • Self-care strategies are taught on Wellness Wednesday.
  • Thoughtful Tuesday is all about Connectedness, Relationship Skills, and Social Awareness.
  • Fitness Friday is exactly what the name entails: Physical Activity and Active play.

(Fun Fact: Children and teens need at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.)
