After missing out on her junior year, Diya planned to make this year extra fun for seniors!

Senior Class President takes leadership outside the court

If you have ever been on the Armijo campus, you’ve probably caught a few glimpses of Senior Class President Diya Patel. Being the varsity volleyball team captain, Skate 4 Change Club’s vice president, Key Club’s club representative, it’s clear that leadership is Patel’s calling.

She’s been involved in student government/Leadership since freshman year. So it was only inevitable that she’d run for a leadership position within Leadership. “I decided to run for class office as I wanted to take on a larger role as a leader on campus,” she said. “I was interested in helping plan a fun senior year for the Class of 2022.”

Campaigning through social media and personally contacting her peers allowed Patel to better connect with the Class of 2022 and share her ideas. “So far I have organized the senior homecoming skits, began planning prom, and designed senior jerseys and senior t-shirts which will be available for purchase,” she said.

Patel’s advice to students contemplating joining student government is to get involved! “Give it a try! You won’t know if you like it or not until you try,” she said. “Student government allows you to meet new people, make new friends, and build your character.”

She plans to attend UC Berkeley or Stanford University to pursue a pediatric specialist career.
