Finally, it’s candy cane season!

With festive family gatherings and meals, you might binge on some classic desserts and sweets. Maybe you’re already familiar with the term “sugar rush.” If not, the dictionary definition is “an experience of high energy after eating or drinking a considerable amount of sugar in a short period of time” (dictionary.com). In other words, when has consumed so many sugary foods, they are transformed into a speedy, energetic person. There are many pop culture references of sugar rush instances that can be pretty funny.

Why is this important? Well, from a health aspect, consuming large amounts of sugar can lead to many side effects. Sugary foods are made up of carbohydrates that cause blood sugar to rise. Your pancreas begins to release a hormone called insulin so that your body can absorb the sugar fast enough. If you ever find yourself feeling side effects, it’s best to stabilize your blood sugar by eating some slow-digesting protein and fiber (cookinglight.com).

Keeping all of this in mind, remember to look after your health. I can’t disagree that sugar is tasty and addictive.
