January 13 is the birthday of Rubber Duckie Ernie, the bath time toy. The first ever time the rubber duck Ernie ever appeared was on a sesame street episode on Feb 25, 1970. Ernie was in a bathtub in a room that resembled his living room, and sang the song, “Rubber Duckie.” The most popular version of the song was sung by Ernie in Episode 0136, on Nov. 16, 1970. Another scene where he was singing was in a room with a plain blue background, Jim Henson was actually the real voice behind the song and later it went No. 16 on the billboard of “Hot 100 Singles” chart in 1970 as well.
Whilst talking about being high on charts and records, Charlotte Lee is actually known for having the biggest rubber ducky collection yet! With over 5,631 rubber ducks to her name (and counting!), the Seattle, Washington, USA, native has achieved the record title for the largest collection of rubber ducks, and what does she use them for you might ask? She doesn’t use them, she mostly just puts them up for decoration around the house or in a room, But I do know a couple uses you could use a rubber duck for which could be maybe decorating a room with rubber ducks or maybe even donating to families who need or want one.
There are many things you can do with rubber ducks. It really just depends on what you personally choose to do with rubber ducks. Talking about so many ducks must have you thinking “who even thought of the idea to make rubber ducks?” Well that question is about to be answered, the first person to ever make a rubber duck was Peter Ganine. Now, you must be thinking “Why did he make such a toy?” and well the reason was because he solely made it for entertainment purposes or playing purposes, however you would want to word it.
Despite the lack of functions and attachments, this duck design was hugely popular, and a whopping 50 million were sold. Now that we know who made the first ever duck, you might be wondering if someone made a large rubber duck? Well someone did and that someone was also Peter Ganine! Not only did he create the world’s first rubber duck but he also made a duplicate 50x bigger than its original size, with the invention of rubber and his lightweight design, he decided he was going to patent the toy, have them made in a factory, and sell them in many stores across the world. As the days go on and the world continues to spin, we shall all celebrate the happiness of the invention of the rubber duck and the smiles it has given us throughout its 50 years.
