About Me

My name is Rianna Garcia and I’m a sophomore. This is my 2nd year of leadership but 1st year of experiencing leadership in person. I have done leadership in middle school so I have a bit of experience of being in leadership. I was a part of the GATE/Honors classes from 3rd grade to 8th grade so I’m used to working in a fast-paced way. I’m part of the IB program (pre-IB at the moment) and plan on trying out for the badminton team. I ran for Freshman Secretary last year but ended up being a Class Officer due to COVID. I am very energetic and hyper so you can see me being “lit” at A-Team games and school events.

Why I’m Running for Officer

You can count on me for showing up to mandatory dates and being the responsible officer I need to be. I’m very organized so I don’t lose important papers. I love facing challenges and finding a solution for it. Having an officer position would help me in the future to communicate with my peers and the ability to step out of my comfort zone more. I’m passionate about having a role in anything. Whether it’s a small role or a big role, I take pride in it.

Main Issue

The campus is blah. It’s unsanitary as well. If the campus had more decorations such as posters and paintings, it would look more appealing to me and others. Plus, parts of the campus are dirty and look like they’ve never been cleaned. I get that parts of the campus are old and that some people rarely go to certain areas, but I think that it should still be cleaned. One of the bathrooms I’ve been to looks like they’ve haven’t been cleaned in years; the toilets are dirty, the toilet paper rolls are empty, and the soap dispenser is empty. One flaw could really affect something big.

What I Want to Change

Student/Staff relationships: I want students to be able to be comfortable with at least most of their teachers; along with teachers being able to be a role model to students. Coming from experience, I was intimidated by at least 1 of my teachers in the past years. They came off as strict and unfriendly so I was scared to talk to them and even ask questions when I needed to. If some of the intimidating teachers were to “let loose” and be a bit more friendly, then other students wouldn’t be scared of them and know that they’re someone you can talk to without any fear.

Mental Health: This topic is extremely important to me. It defines how the person lives their life and how their behavior is. I want the students of our school to be able to be comfortable talking about their mental state and how they are feeling. Not everyone has a person that checks up on them. People are scared to open up because of them not being comfortable enough or social anxiety. No one knows how everyone is doing. They could be happy on the outside but could be depressed on the inside. I want the topic of mental health to be recognized more often and no one should be scared to open up to someone.

Communication: I’m not entirely sure about the communication within the school, but I feel like the word for events or important things doesn’t get around much. If there were more ways where the word could be spread out to everyone on campus, then it would make everything easier. A way for communication to be easier is through “Remind” or just putting a lot of posters around the school. Posting information on social media or through emails would be good too, but I would be more effective if we took different approaches.
