College Focus: Fast Learning at SLO
California Polytechnic University has two locations. One of the campuses is in Pomona, not far from some of California’s most prestigious schools like Pitzer and Harvey Mudd. The second campus is in San Luis Obispo, often referred to as Cal Poly SLO. While the southern campus has an acceptance rate of about 39.3%, the campus that is in central California only accepts 31.3%, according to a 2015-2016 Google research page.
In 2017, Cal Poly SLO received over forty-eight thousand applications! One of the applicants several years ago was Mr. John Stenger, who currently teaches math at Armijo. Other alumni include Weird Al Yankovich and John Madden.
Cal Poly SLO is known for its Learn by Doing philosophy. They encourage students to combine theory with learning. The school is organized into six different colleges which offers 64 bachelors’ degrees and 32 masters’ degrees.
San Luis Obispo is known as one of the happiest cities in California, not far from the beach and not far from the mountains.
