Revival, Selena Gomez’s third and most recent album. was released October 9, 2015, by Interscope records. Selena started the album process in 2014 when she left Hollywood Records. The album has 16 tracks and the main theme is about her journey of media scrutiny of her personal life.

Selena Gomez welcomes a new era in her music career with this one line of the title track: “It’s my time to butterfly.” In Revival, she shares about her personal life for the first time since starting her career. Selena Gomez finds a way to transcend from the clique. The album brings sexiness, yet she never tries too hard, with music ranging from fun, flirty songs, like Hands to Myself, to a blissed-out Survivors to the intoxicating Me and the Rhythm. The sound of this album makes us realize that she has more control of her music than we might have realized in the past.

The former Disney star found a new comfort zone in her music since her first album Stars Dance, released in 2013. Despite this, Selena Gomez doesn’t have the vocal chops of other Disney stars like Demi Lovato or Miley Cyrus, but she makes it up by finding a new malleability in her voice. She takes a puck-soul Charli XCX into the song Same Old Love and builds breathy indie-pop vocals that made her lead single Good For You a summer hit. Revival is a coming-of-age story for Selena Gomez from start to finish. It brings out a newly empowered female artist that is growing every day into her strengths like never before.
