When campus monitor Ms. Desiree Malone, better known as Ms. D, found out
that she was chosen by the students as the Teacher of the Month for September, she
was full of joy. ”Honestly, I was shocked but when I looked back I realized that I do have
a big impact on the students here and I have a direct connection with many of them.”
Ms. D has been working with Armijo students for ten years and said that she
”looooooovvvvvees [her] students here at Armijo… I enjoy watching students come in as
babies and leave as young adults,” she said.
Ms. D encourages other staff members to develop strong relationships with
students. “It feels wonderful knowing you have a great connection with a student and
lead by example to the right path,” she said.
While she is enjoying her role as campus monitor, Ms. D did have some ideas
about what would make it better. “It would be to give the student various lunch periods
according to grade level or more than one lunch period because there are so many kids
standing in the long lines and by the time you get your food lunch almost over,” she
