Growing up I listened to Taylor Swift and she was more mellow. At one point she brought out my favorite country artist Hunter Hayes and I believe that was her showing her generosity and caring demeanor.

Swift has been a great influential person to young adults around the world, but I do find her change in music for her sixth album “reputation” a little off. The album was released on Friday, November 10, and it is an approach she may be trying out, but I don’t really like the music. Granted, that is just a personal opinion.

The album consists of 15 tracks, some of which carry her traditional unique style but others might be considered ground-breaking for this 10-time Grammy Winner who sounds like she is trying to reintroduce herself to her own audience as well as new listeners. According to gomoxie.org, Swift is the first – and so far only – artist in history to have an album sell one million copies in the first week a total of three times. Those three albums were “Speak Now,” “RED” and “1989, which came out in 2010, 2012 and 2014 respectively. This album, reputation, had sold over 700,000 on the first day, according to Billboard magazine.

Most would look at her new persona as a big step for her but I noticed that when artists stray into fields that are normally out of their forte they tend to get backlash. Take Miley Cyrus for example. She tried out hip-hop and different approaches for her music. Some people found it refreshing while others found that her perfect image was tainted. Now she would like to transition back into the music style she started with but people are making it harder for her.

My words to Taylor: if this is what you choose, make sure you don’t lose your originality.
