August marks the celebration of National Black Business Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and supporting Black-owned businesses. This month highlights the vital contributions of Black entrepreneurs to our economy and encourages customers to support these businesses. By promoting economic growth and community diversity, National Black Business Month helps address the challenges Black business owners face today. It not only shines a light on their achievements but also encourages everyone to uplift these businesses.
National Black Business Month was founded in 2004 by Frederick E. Jordan Sr., an engineering entrepreneur, and John William Templeton, a historian and journalist. Their goal was to bring awareness and support to Black-owned businesses, which have historically faced significant obstacles in accessing capital, resources, and markets. By dedicating an entire month to this cause, they aimed to boost economic growth and investments within the Black community and beyond. Over the years, the movement has grown, allowing a stronger network of Black-owned businesses and our society.
Community organizations also play a big role in National Black Business Month. They provide partnerships, sponsorships, and support overall. Community organizations often collaborate with Black-owned businesses to organize events, workshops, and networking opportunities, which all brings more recognition and resources to the business and community. Community organizations are playing a vital part in the growth of Black-owned businesses. They play a key role in opening brand new outlets for these businesses and help them grow more especially during National Black Business Month.
