On May 18th Armijo held their animal Prom open to seniors, juniors, and invited sophomores. This year they did not allow freshmen or graduates to attend prom. Prom tickets varied from 80$-120$ depending on when the tickets were purchased. The theme the student body voted on was Enchanted Forest. Decorations around the venue brought the theme to life. Security was around the venue.
During the event, there were a few options to occupy your time. There was a photo booth in the corner which printed out two strips of your photos. Outside the venue, there were a few games you could play. These games were larger versions of Chess, Checkers, Jenga, and Connect 4. Small decorations were scattered around the venue. Hidden within these decorations were small mushrooms that once found could be taken to the staff and exchanged for a gift card. From the moment you got to the venue you were able to eat. They had Chicken tenders, Fries, Lumpia, and an assortment of fruits. Adjacent to the small buffet of food was a little bar area. They served Sherley Temples, Coke, and Sprite. On each table was a pitcher of water that was filled as needed throughout the night.
The week before prom, a Google form was sent out to nominate your prom royalty. After nominations were made another Google form was created to vote for the Junior Prince/Princess and Senior King/Queen. Each grade had 5 women and 5 men to vote for. Midway through the night, Mr.Towner picked up the microphone and hyped out the crowd. He first announced the Junior Prince and Princess, Raquel Pena, and Luis Funez Brenes right after he announced the Senior King and Queen, Mia Ponce and Santiago Alvarez.
According to the Junior winners, they felt like the voting was fair in their class.
“Most people just didn’t care to vote so with enough friends it wasn’t too hard to win”, said Raquel Pena.
“I thought the voting was fair. I did a fair amount of prompting to get our names out there though. It was lots of fun though.”, said Luis Funez Brenes.
As far as safety goes, students felt safe. There was security checking for wristbands and making sure everyone there was supposed to be. Students wore outfits of all types, some cultural and some costumes. It was an environment safe for all. In prior years there were a lot of issues regarding food and seating. That was not the case this year. This year there was a surplus of seating and the mass majority enjoyed the food.
