Claflin University is a private 4 year college located in Orangeburg , Southern California. This school is known for being the oldest historically black college and university in South Carolina. Not only that but they are also proudly known for their science department as well as their choir team. They proudly welcome all students regardless of race, gender, religious or ethnic origin.
Claflin University has been open to all since 1869 and the name of the school was in honor of Lee Claflin, who was a prominent Methodist layman from Boston.
Approximately 2,000 students attend Claflin University. Lots of familiar names and faces attended this school. Martin Luther King Jr was one of them alongside Joseph H. Jefferson.
The school’s mascot is a panther and after some research I discovered the choice of this was the because “developed primarily for use by Claflin University varsity athletic teams and the Department of Athletics, but may be incorporated into non-athletics designs.”
School traditions are common, especially at Claflin. Every year they host a matriculation day and a freshman confirmation ceremony.
