Autumn is filled with new beginnings, like the start of this school year! Faced with the stress of school, many people quit their summer jobs to focus on school. However, Kayla Pryor, a 17-year-old student at Armijo, manages both work and school. Pryor was questioned about her job and gave the following answers.
Why Did You Pick this Job?
Pryor’s reply was, “I picked this job honestly because I needed one and I saw the opportunity and took it.” She found out there was an opportunity to work there from Armijo’s college and career center. They had Six Flags officials come to the school’s front library and offered open positions to work there.
Are You Satisfied With Working There?
“I like working there because it keeps me productive but I don’t appreciate the environment now because it’s really stressful and frustrating.”
What is Your Job Role?
Pryor’s job role is a ride operator. Her thoughts about working as a ride operator are that “It’s very stressful but it’s pretty fun and I love interacting with the little kids.”
If You Wanted to Work in Another Job or Dream Job, What Would It Be?
She answered, “My dream job is medical sonography.”
Do You Think Others Would Like to Work There? Why or Why Not?
“I do think that the job is more fitted for VERY outgoing and kid-friendly people, so whoever has the interest to work in amusement parks should definitely work there!”
How Did You Feel When First Working There?
“I felt really happy because it was my first job, physically, so I was happy, and I met a few new friends and it was good at the time.”
How Would You Describe the Work Environment There?
“The work environment is very fast-paced and serious. It gets mostly hectic but that’s what you’d expect from an amusement park.”
What is Your Salary There?
“My salary is $17 an hour.”
If They Could Raise Your Salary, How Much Would You Want It to Be? Why or Why Not?
Pryor’s answer to this last question was, “I would love to get $18 – $19 an hour because that would make me love my job again lol. But I do think that the ride operators should get paid more because they put themselves at risk as well but that’s just my opinion.”
