Literacy is an important skill for us to use, so it is important to foster it while young.

Fairfield, CA – On March 15th, David Weir Preparatory Academy celebrated its annual I Love to Read Day, a community-driven event designed to promote literacy and engagement within the school. This year marked the event’s eighth anniversary, and the first time it was held after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 20 representatives from local community organizations, including the city of Fairfield, the Fairfield Police Department, the Fairfield Fire Department, the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District, Public Works, and Councilmember Doriss Panduro joined in the fun. Volunteers from these organizations traveled from classroom to classroom to read to students and speak about the importance of literacy in their careers.

Every class at David Weir was joined by at least one reader, who not only read from a grade-appropriate book but also engaged with the students about their professional experiences and the role that reading has played in their success.

“I Love to Read Day is a very special event on our school calendar,” said Principal Alison Guernsey. “It’s an opportunity to bring our community together and to inspire our students to become lifelong learners. We were thrilled to see so many representatives from local organizations volunteer their time and expertise to support our students.”

The event was a great success, with students and teachers alike enjoying the day’s festivities. David Weir Preparatory Academy looks forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come and is grateful to all those who participated in this year’s I Love to Read Day.
