A movie with a heartfelt message

DVD Review: Pay It Forward (2020)

Olivia Rubio, Staff writer

The romantic/drama movie, Pay It Forward was released on October 20, 2000. While it is over 20 years old, it still holds a timely message.

Haley Joel Osment, the main actor who plays Trevor, is also featured in the hit movie, Forrest Gump (1994) and many other movies of the time period. Helen Hunt, who played his mother Arlene, wasn’t new to the acting industry, either. Her first role was in the 1985 movie Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and the list goes on. Her most recent movie was How It Ends in 2021.

Pay It Forward is about a young boy attempting to make the world a better place. The acting overall was actually pretty good and I liked the songs they picked. It started off entertaining to me. Within a minute there are cops and the press surrounding the little house, and the rest of the movie explained how it all came to that. I was intrigued and felt the adrenaline due to the drama.

The overall theme of this movie is that kids control the future of our world. We are the next generation and we influence what’s going to happen next.

I would recommend this movie to those out there because it really did open my eyes.  I honestly see things in a bigger picture after watching it. Generally this wouldn’t be a movie I’d first pick, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Overall I’ll give it a 7/10.
