Romantic roads can be challenging
DVD Review – La La Land
A winner of six Academy Awards, La La Land, directed and written by Damien Chazelle, was released in 2016.
In this romantic musical, two people — Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) — follow two different paths to success. Mia always dreamed of becoming an actress and Sebastian was a dedicated jazz musician. Both lived in Los Angeles but, in such a big city, the two constantly run into each other.
The first time they meet is in LA traffic where Sebastian waves at her as they share road rage. Later, he would play gigs at restaurants where Mia ended up going with her roommate.
Mia tries to start a conversation with him, but he totally ignores her, but they meet again and finally go on a date, ending up together, which leads to later on in the movie, where Mia performs her one woman play that she has been practicing for what seems like forever.
She invites Sebastian to attend, but he did not show up because he preferred going to a band photoshoot with his friends. Mia’s play is a disaster and it didn’t go as she expected, but there was a casting director in the audience who really liked her.
Later that night, Mia gets upset with Sebastian and breaks up with him. She then decides to move back to Nevada and try to forget about him. The casting director ends up calling Sebastian, letting him know that she wanted Mia to audition for a part and Sebastian quickly drives to Nevada to tell her the great news.
Mia wasn’t too happy with his visit but decided to put everything past her and went with Sebastian to achieve her dreams. Will they end up together or not? You’ll need to watch it yourself to find out.
The movie was definitely a 10/10 in my book. It was a romance film with a surprising end that teaches us to go after what we love. Even if you think everything is turning out horrible, there is always something good out of it. I definitely recommend this movie. It is one of my favorite movies I have most recently watched.
