Literacy Night brings together community and families

The goal of Literacy Night was to engage parents, families, and community members and to encourage families to read with their children at home. This event is part of the Literacy Plan for Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and Suisun Elementary.

Fairfield, CA – On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, Suisun Elementary School hosted a Literacy and Scholastic Book Fair Event in collaboration with the Suisun Public Library. At the Literacy Night, several Suisun Elementary teachers and Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Board Member, Ana Petero, read aloud to local families and students.

The theme for the Literacy Night was “Reading is Funtastic.” During Literacy Night, children and their families cycled through classrooms, each with a different adult reader. This provided children the opportunity to listen to new and exciting books.  It also demonstrated to their families how fun and beneficial reading aloud can be for children.

“Our families had such a wonderful experience listening to stories being read by our Suisun Elementary teachers,” said Suisun Elementary School Principal, Dr. Cathy Chan. “By hosting the Scholastic Book Fair at the Suisun City Library, families were provided with the opportunity to purchase books and educational materials to add to their own personal home libraries.”
