AHS Royal wins outstanding scholarship

Don’t judge a scholarship by its packaging. Amazon knows how to deliver.

Armijo Robotics Club President Kaleb Ugalde won the the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, which includes $40,000 and a paid software engineering internship after his first year at UC San Diego.

This award is only given to 100 students per year.  They sent the notification in a normal Amazon package.

“Wow! That’s rad. So impressive!” said Ms. Vanessa Walling-Sisi. She wasn’t the first to be impressed with the award.

“That’s a jaw-dropping achievement,” Mr. John Brandt said.

Mr. Pete Smith is the adviser of the Armijo Robotics Club and Mr. Anthony Gonzalez acknowledged him in Ugalde’s victory. “Wow, this is amazing! Congratulations to Kaleb!! Pete, you are an amazing teacher, mentor and person,” Mr. Gonzalez said. “Armijo Royals bouncing back strong during these crazy times!”

“No doubt bringing the Roar to Royals,” added Mr. Brandon Weyandt. “Seriously great job to him and you Mr. Smith!”

Ms. Renee Deger also acknowledged the hard work of both Ugalde and his teacher. “Truly life-changing for Kaleb and inspiring, and a testament to your hard work and many many hours you put into robotics, Peter,” she said.

“I have observed first-hand how hard you work with your robotics students after school for long hours. More than once, I went home at 6pm and your students were still working away. And I must say, the way Amazon “delivered” that scholarship is really cool,” said Mr. Michael Peters.

“It is an honor to Kaleb and, in turn to Armijo, that we could be his vehicle for his future,” said Mr. Michael Blum.  “Inspiration, enlightenment, engagement and empowerment. That is what we are!”
