Virtual club is open to all
Club Focus – RHS Book Club
Hello! My name is Maya Adimora, the President of the Rodriguez Book Club. On the club’s behalf, I invite all students in the school district to our next meeting on November 10, 2021, from 4 – 4:30 pm.
We meet virtually once a month to discuss our selected book of the month and vote on our next read. In our last meeting, we discussed There’s Someone inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. November’s meeting will focus on our most recent selection: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
Although the award-winning book was published in 2017, it experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement and the George Floyd protests in the summer of 2020. After finishing the novel within two days (it was a real page-turner), I thought that Angie Thomas insightfully addresses police brutality, racism, and black culture in America through the eyes of Starr Carter, the main protagonist. Do you think so too?
We would love to hear your thoughts at our next meeting. To join the RHS Book Club and receive a free copy of all the books we’ll read throughout the school year, email the RHS librarian Ms. Tracy Pratt ([email protected]) or me ([email protected]). Mark your calendars!
“For a second, I was thinking that I might write 5 articles this time. Then I reminded myself that I'm weak and can't handle it.”
