Make A Difference Day – October 23

A community is only as good as its members and the work they put into it.

While volunteering may seem tedious at times, everyone can give back to their community, and there is no better time to do that than on National Make a Difference Day, a day dedicated to community service and volunteer work. This event can be traced back to 1992, nearly 30 years ago, when USA Weekend and Points of Light began promoting community service and the importance of dedicating oneself to the community. While these two entities do not promote National Make a Difference Day anymore, other organizations have taken it upon themselves to continue this event on the fourth Saturday of every October. This year’s date falls on October 23.
You can make a difference in your community by:

  • Joining Armijo Key Club or a school club that focuses on volunteering
  • Donating to a charity that speaks to you
  • Tutoring or mentoring younger students
  • Taking to the streets and protesting for a good cause
  • Grabbing some friends and cleaning up your local park
  • Hosting a fun event that involves your entire community

Still not sure what you can do in the community? Sign up at a website like https://www.volunteermatch.org/search?l=Fairfield,%20CA,%20USA and find out what groups, organizations, and causes nearby are looking for volunteers. You may just find that special something that helps you grow as a person while you help others grow.
