At the end of the game, the boys knew they could hang up their cleats with pride.

Varsity: The Royals found out last minute that they would have no subs for game and had to do a last minute player shuffle to adjust, but the boys took on the challenge.

They were a little to slow to start but they found their momentum and challenged hard to gain control. There was strong play by both Vanden and Armijo teams, with great passing and multiple shots on goal but junior keeper Jonathon Harrington shut the Vikings down every time.

The score was 0-0 until the last two minutes when senior Chris Hernandez sunk a beautiful goal into the upper corner. The Royals Varsity continued to play strong and battle it out in the second half, but with no subs, they had to be strategic with plays and runs.

“So proud of these boys and how they stepped up to defeat the odds tonight,” said Coach Megan Flores.

Please also note, senior Chris Hernandez just received highest honors in our district for maintaining a 4.0+ all four years.

Junior Varsity (JV): Another great show by JV with a 3-0 shutout. They came out strong with an early goal about seven minutes in by junior Alejandro Godinez. Both teams held strong after that and Vanden held them off at 1-0 at half.

JV regrouped and they were able to get another goal in about halfway through by freshman Santiago Alvarez. After assisting with all the other goals, sophomore Diego Torres was able to sink a goal of his own in the last seven minutes.

Varsity Coach Flores said she was very proud of both teams. “They showed up to win and shut down Vanden from even getting one goal in all night. Also, a shout out to two of our junior players, Emiliano Hurtado and Cesar Molina, who were unable to make the game due to being invited to a tryout for the new local MLS Next Pathway teams! I hope they represented Armijo well at their tryouts and, even if making the team takes them away from us next year, I wish them the best in reaching their goals,” she said.
