What I can do to help the school

I really like to help out people. When it comes to helping out others, I’m considered one of the people that they can count on. I prioritize the life of others before mine when it comes to certain situations. I make sure that there aren’t any problems and that the person(s) are okay and well. Hosting fundraisers and events that can benefit money off of are ideas to me that can help Armijo’s fund. I say that Armijo should be spending money on really important things at the school; like school supplies, PE equipment, and making the campus a bit more clean and nice. I heard that Armijo spent a lot of money building the library, but how would it benefit the school?

Why I’m in Leadership

I would say I’m a fun-hardworking person. When it comes to helping out, I become very serious about it. I make sure everything goes in plan and that everyone knows what to do. I’ve never hosted an event but I do plan things thoroughly. I like to have fun when it comes to events; for example I want to see people enjoy when planning out or even just working on a normal school project. However I tend to get very serious about working sometimes. When it’s something REALLY important and someone’s not paying attention or just messing around, I don’t enjoy it. I “work first, party later.” I’m an energetic person so I have a lot of energy having fun. Otherwise while I’m working, I’m very serious about it. Why am I serious about it? I make sure everything is done according to the agenda. I like for things to go according to plan. I want to make sure everything is perfect- no mess-ups, and nothing is missing. This way, I’m a Leadership student because I really enjoy having fun when needed and I get very serious when it comes to planning/helping out.

What I want to change about Armijo

Student/Staff relationships: There aren’t many teachers and students that interact with each other. I’d love to see teachers on campus interacting and bonding with their students. Like Ms. Tomko for example. She enjoys interacting with her students and I appreciate it because not many teachers are like that. I’d like for teachers to talk more to their students about not just school. I’d like to see students create bonds with their teachers so they know they have another adult to talk to. Every week, I want there to be a day where staff and students will be chill with each other. They won’t have to worry about doing work, they won’t have to worry about missing out on any work given out during synchronous time, I want staff and students to come together and just talk. Not about school, about themselves. Get the know about the background of the staff, what students need that staff needs to know about.

This addresses another problem I want to solve that every teen goes through. Mental health. Mental health is extremely important to me. It defines how the person acts and how their behavior is. I want teachers to check up on their students Thursday or Friday, depending on the day students last have the class. I want staff to have a “Mental Health check-up” to see how they are doing mentally, physically as well. Not everyone has a person that checks up on them. People are scared to open up because of social anxiety; with their fear of being judged. If staff checked up on students the day they last have each other for the week (Thursday/Friday), it would show the staff how the students are doing and how to help them.

Classwork/Homework: Teachers tend to assign a lot of classwork in just one day, then they assign homework. If there isn’t already, there should be a work policy on how much a teacher can assign. There should be a limit, a time limit on how much a teacher can assign homework per day. Students already have to worry about 5-6 classes, which means they have about 6-7 assignments to do all in one day. I want teachers to only assign 15 minutes worth of homework each day. Therefore, they have an hour worth of homework from all their classes.
