Calvin is a lot friendlier than his horror namesake.

Freddy Krueger may be considered one of the most popular characters in modern horror, but sharing a last name with this character has not caused Calvin too much grief.

“People did use to comment on my name in fifth grade, but not anymore,” he said. The last version of the movie was shared a decade ago, so his younger siblings are even less likely to be teased for the name. Those siblings include Kyle (12), Cody (4), Melody(3) and Klayton (1).

Krueger has never actually seen any of the Freddy Krueger movies, but the franchise has been around since 1984, with the first version of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

It was followed by A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master(1988), and A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1991). While the sixth movie in the series was called Freddy’s Dead, the Final Nightmare (1991), three other movies followed: Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994), Freddy vs. Jason (2003)and a remake of the original film in 2010.

“I reckon that your last name makes you special and it’s really rare for someone to have the same last name,” said Krueger. Despite his name, Krueger is not much of a fan of horror movies. “I do like thrillers and action-adventure movies,” he said. “And I really love Star Wars.”

Krueger said that he would like to be involved in the badminton team in the future. He enjoys listening to bands like 21-Pilots and “some tuba music, a catchy tune.” When he graduates from Armijo, he hopes to go either to the University of California, either in Los Angeles (UCLA) or in Berkeley (UCB). His ultimate goal is to become a pilot.
