Valeria Gonzalez – Officer Bio for ASB Office 2020 – 2021
Important Characteristics About Me
Since my very first day in Leadership, I have been really enthusiastic and curious about the whole program and the people in it, and since the very first week, I became passionate about it. I love what we do here, I love the people and being 100% dedicated and committed to my responsibilities since I always want to do everything I can to make things work, this allows me to get things done, one way or another. Besides that, I am always willing to help, and I also consider myself as a very caring person, not only for my leadership family but all the students outside the program as well as our school staff, I definitely enjoy getting involved and consider thoughts and different opinions on different matters, always maintaining good, respectful communication and setting a final plan of action. The last key qualities about myself that I take pride in and make me a good candite for the position are my ability to adapt, to any work environment and situation (I will make the most out of it in the best way I can think of), my good attitude and how hard I always work to make the best experience for everyone around.
How do you plan to stay connected to students to make sure their voices are heard?
Getting feedback is ALWAYS important for me and the whole leadership class, this is the only way to know how can we improve something, which is why I say and/or propose:
a) First of all, all my social media accounts are available for anyone who wants to talk to me about anything, and they are also bilingual.
b) Representatives from each class and myself
Selected students from leadership and myself can make surveys for each class or actually go to the classrooms ask around specific questions and thoughts on certain topics (big events like Hoco or Powder Puff, A-Team Games, etc).
We could also have two representatives per class outside the program, and we could work together even if they aren’t enrolled in the leadership class.
c) Constantly passing out information through school email and the leadership instagram account on topics that concern all students.
Create leadership class instagram accounts run by the officers and myself to be constantly in contact.
d) Clubs Staff and ASB meetings.
What (in your opinion) are the three most important issues facing students at Armijo High School and how will you address them?
a) Inclusion/Student Participation in School Events/Memorable Experiences:
More bilingual announcements so we all know about these events and about school information in general. Inclusion will lead to more support and raise our school spirit.
Communicating the leadership program EPIC slogan with the whole school (promotion through the broadcast, etc), talk about what we learn.
More intriguing and fun events (Like Night Rally and Karaoke Night).
New forms of advertisement that should be used to promote them (announcements in classes with Airdrop; flyers).
b) School Sanitation
Select a group of students from leadership who would meet up once every two weeks to help out with the garbage around school and posters from past events that are no longer useful need to be clean up.
I would like to continue having the improvements from this year, like the hand sanitizer and soap.
Also beautifying our school (through art, murals, the garden, etc)
c) Students Recognition/Motivation
Teachers recognizing more their students in class and the PBAS Store with better items and opening often.
More awards for their work (in sports, clubs, arts, outstanding school work, etc.) so they can feel motivated and keep up (skeezy awards, posters as gifts, shoutouts in our social media accounts, broadcast)
Top Priorities
a) Contribute to the Leadership Legacy and make a difference for students in any way possible (recognition, events, weekly lessons, etc).
b) Make of Armijo an even more inclusive place where all thoughts and opinions are heard, and where students and staff feel welcome.
