The go-to person for the Class of 2021
As President of the Class of 2021, Shyanne Stever has been responsible for the Junior Class’s participation in Homecoming Week, which involved having students come together to put on a skit, but the biggest event that she and her officers will be involved with planning is Prom.
Stever said that being Junior Class President is fun. “I love the interactions I get. My friend calls me Class Rep and I find that really funny, but I really love planning and that’s a big part of the job… I decided to run for Class President because I wanted to take on a bigger role and see the behind the scenes when it comes to things like leadership and outside activities. I want to help people grow as I grow,” she said.
Now that Stever has had some experience in the role, she can offer advice to future officers. “Take everybody’s opinion seriously, listen to everyone, don’t shut anyone out, but also don’t take it to heart,” she said. “Make sure to communicate. We struggled with it at the beginning, but if there is no communication, then there are problems.”
Stever is a class representative this year, but next year she hopes to serve as one of the Associated Student Body (ASB) officers. “Basically, as ASB, I’d be in charge of leadership and be a part of the ASB officers on campus. They plan and run all the events,” she said.
Looking farther into the future, Stever hopes to get into Cal Berkeley or UC Santa Cruz, either studying something for Sports Medicine or paving the way to become a Realtor.
