Music in Video Games
Music is a very important aspect in our world. In fact, for most of us, music is a part of our everyday life. Now, what about music in video games? How does music serve as something beneficial to the criteria of a game? Well, it depends on the type of game. The game is violent, action-packed, or filled with intense gameplay, the music will be more heroic or fast. Heavy metal, for example, is used in games like Call of Duty and Transformers. The quick-paced gameplay and action is symbolized not only though an immersive experience, but also through the soundtrack that matches every moment of play. Red Dead Redemption II is one prime example of the way music enhances a video game.
Victoria Martinez said that the music helps give context. It provides a sound for when someone is being punched or builds tension when someone is being chased. Michael Orsiness said that the guitar background fits both the game and the setting and helps raise adrenaline. Jasmine Alarcon was most impressed with the sound of the glass harmonica, which made her feel that her character had been filled with empowerment. In World of Warcraft, the music is highly attached to the environment of the characters. Its peaceful and intense music matches every single experience, whether the player is in Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, or anywhere in the game. Each place is accented by the beautiful
soundtrack.
