For those who want to pursue photography professionally or just up their Instagram game by a considerable margin, the Vacaville Museum has a workshop that all photographers will find useful.

The museum will be presenting the Family-Fun Day Workshop “From Pinhole to Digital” on Aug. 17 as part of the Solano Arts & Lecture series. The workshop will go over the history of photography and provide hands-on activities.

The day will begin in the museum gallery where photographer and instructor Grant Holliman will teach lessons on early photography and provide pinhole cameras as well as other 19th and 20th century cameras for hands-on activities. The workshop “will focus on easy-to-learn (and) easy-to-do design and composition to help create exciting, engaging photographs,” museum staff wrote in a news release.

Following the first stage of the workshop, participants will then return to the 21st century and use digital cameras as they walk down Buck Avenue to capture images of the historic street. Holliman and museum staff will lead the walk and provide expertise.

At the end of the workshop, all participants will be given the opportunity to show off their favorite images taken during the morning session. Holliman will provide feedback.

The workshop will run from 10 to 11:20 a.m. at the museum, 213 Buck Ave. The event is free and sponsored by Jill Blechschmidt of McGuire Capital Group. It is open to all children ages 8 to 17 and their adult counterparts. Space is limited, and reservations may be made by calling 447-4513.
