Baseball, Baseball, Nothing but Baseball

Matthew has his priorities in place – baseball now, career later.

For Matthew Miranda, baseball has been the one constant in his life. “My best personal record would be having the lowest ERA (earned run average) on the team this year, or getting Honorable Mention in League,” he said. He’s been playing the sport for most of his life and that has been his main contribution to the events at Armijo.

“I’m going to play baseball at Solano for two years and then, hopefully, transfer to a four-year school and continue playing,” he said. While he loves the sport, he doesn’t see it as a career. “When I graduate [from Armijo], I want to study kinesiology in college so that I can become a physical therapist,” said Miranda.

Being part of the baseball team was not only about the sport for Miranda. “I would encourage anyone to definitely get involved with sports because you’ll form bonds with all your teammates and become good friends while having fun,” he said. “I think that students doing well in academics and / or sports should get more recognition so that Armijo can gain a better reputation and more kids will actually want to come here.”

Miranda identified his mother as his main role model. “She’s always working to provide for the family and she motivates me to be the best version of myself every day,” he said.
