ASB focus – A late addition to April’s senior officers stories

Like Symone Hang’s campaign, this article about her started a little later than those of her classmates. The Senior Class officers were featured in April, but Hang’s story was postponed. As Senior Class secretary, however, she has held an important role in the graduating class.

“I chose to join student government because I wanted to come out of my comfort zone,” said Hang, who joined Leadership in her sophomore year. “I actually wanted to be vice president.” Secretary was her second choice and she has spent the year focusing on filling out forms and helping her fellow officers. “I would like to continue student government in college, if I have the time.” She would encourage current high school students to consider serving in their time at Armijo. “It is a lot of hard work. It’s also very fun and will help you a lot with your comfort zone. You’d have to want to be in the program because it’s a lot of dedication… If you are new to Armijo and you want to get to know more people, you should join leadership. It’s a great place where you can be yourself and come out of your comfort zone.

If she could make any changes at Armijo, it would be to improve the buildings, to “make them look nicer.” Over the next decade, some of those changes might actually take place. “I would also allow more activities to happen at school,” she said.

Time is something that is precious to Hang, as is family. She has spent time the last few years participating in track and also going out with family and friends. Her older sister Krystine turns 27 in June and her older brother Jeremy, who turns 22 in May, also attended Armijo. She also has a younger sister, Hayden (8) and a younger brother, Jaylen (4).

“After I graduate, I want to go to college and further my education,” she said. She is considering majoring in Social Services. “I would like to work with foster kids or be a therapist or have a group home.”
