It benefits both you and the cat, although he may take some convincing.

We know that cats love to nap, eat, play and repeat. These felines are a good friend to have in your home. They are sleeping pals and sometimes, they will want a hug from you!

June 4 is National Hug Your Cat Day, which you can celebrate by hugging your furry friend.  Hugging your pet or being with it relieves stress, according to several recent studies. Touch is a vital part of communication to all animals and it lets them know if the person is harmful or harmless.

Like people, though, cats have different personalities. Some cats don’t like to be picked up or hugged, so for those it might be worth just giving them a gentle boop on the nose. If you don’t have a cat, then head over to an animal shelter and visit some of the cats that are there. Those felines will need a lot of loving and you can ask if it would be okay to cuddle with one of the cats at Solano SPCA or Solano County Animal Care.

To enjoy more of this national holiday, make hugging your cat into your routine.  If you want to get a cat, adopt one and give it a happy home. Share some photos of your cat on social media by using #HugYourCatDay.
