May is halfway over, which means that the same is true for National Military
Appreciation Month, a time designed for patriots to “honor, remember, recognize and appreciate those who serve and have served all while knowing its history.” (nmam) It wasn’t until 2004 that this month was designated as National Military Appreciation Month, but it had the support of several veterans’ organizations when it was made official.

There are many different days to celebrate throughout the month, which began with National Loyalty Day “that recognizes American freedom and the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States.” (nmam)

The first full week, Public Service Recognition Week honors government employees, but within that week is Victory in Europe Day (May 8) and Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 12).

May 20 is Armed Forces Day and May 29 is Memorial Day.

While many students will find themselves at Solano or another community college in the fall, and others are headed to four-year colleges and universities, a significant number of students will find themselves supporting themselves in careers in the military. Whether they choose to serve in the Army, the Navy, the Marines, or the Air Force, the month of May will be an annual chance to celebrate their choice and their contributions
