Parenting is a commitment that lasts more than a lifetime.

For most of us, parents are the people we will forever have in our lives, physically or in our memories. No matter how old we get, we will always need them. Whether it is for advice, love, simply anything, we believe we can always count on them to be there for us.

While there is Mothers’ Day in May and Father’s Day in June, Parents’ Day is a day that celebrates them both. It takes place on July 25 and is designed to celebrate the responsibility parents take when deciding to have children.

Being a parent is an important role and it can be one of the most rewarding roles anyone can take. This is because children are the mirror version of the parent, they take on their kindness, respect, and happiness, and they become a mini version of the two adults who have chosen to raise them. It cannot be stressed enough how challenging it can be, especially when one considers the crazy things children have done.

Parenting can be challenging and Parents’ Day gives children a chance to appreciate the love and dedication that parents focus on when raising children, especially when they become teens. Keeping a good relationship with a child helps benefit and nurture the physical, emotional and social development and in general the impact it will have on them in the long run.

Have you recognized when your parents listen to your problems without invalidating you or your feelings? Are your parents willing to have boundaries and consequences, providing you with both guidance and security? Are your parents available whenever you need them and have they helped you build the trust and be more open?

Parents’ Day is an ideal time to thank them for those things we take for granted.  This day was created, to honor and respect all the parents who have raised their children to be amazing people.
