This day could start a lifetime of discovery.

The world is on the run on June 2. Global Running Day takes place on the first Wednesday of June. This is a day for runners of all ages to re-spark their passion for running, but it also helps beginners to find their passion.

National Running Day started in 2009, but it became so popular that the first Global Running Day took place on June 1, 2016.

During these difficult times, many people have turned to running to release anxiety, gain perspective, and cope with cabin fever. There are several ways that you can take part in this day (Global Running Day):

  • Sign up for a race (com is a good site)
  • Treat yourself to a new pair of running shoes
  • Hit the trail
  • Run with friends and music
  • Start a new running program
  • Work with a coach

Anyone can participate in Global Running Day. While there might not be as many group events as there have been in the past, runners can simply let the air hit their face as they run solo down a path, or go on a trail with a small group of friends.

The health benefits of running are amazing, but even walking can have the same or even more benefits. According to Dignity Health, running is an exercise that has a high impact on your body. When you run, you are putting one foot down and your body tends to absorb three times the body weight. People who walk are doing the exact same thing, but at that pace, your body absorbs about one and half times your body weight. It’s a less impactful exercise because it distributes our weight evenly between our feet and our legs

Runners can find motivation in the competition, the rewards, the improvements in strength and time. They can develop and maintain a healthy weight, socialize and flex their own personal style in running gear. Runners might run for themselves or they might choose to participate in Global Running Day to benefit a charity. There are so many reasons to participate, and all you really need are a good pair of shoes!
