Spring into action and make a flower happy!

April showers bring May flowers, and we all must do our part to keep them healthy, so celebrate National Water a Flower Day on May 30.

Though taking care of flowers seems like a burden to many, it can actually be very relaxing and can bring up levels of serotonin, at least for those without allergies.

The key to trying to keep your plants alive is to determine whether they like moist soil or rather damp soil to keep their roots moisturized. Some newer plants to your collection may need drier soil to prevent drowning, which can happen, so when you celebrate, be sure to know the needs of the flowers.

Caring for plants is a very therapeutic hobby which many suggest to do to let out stress. This year, it might be more important than ever. Flowers let out positive energy that relaxes the body, so having a couple of lavender plants or roses wouldn’t be so bad! They can provide gentle, calming scents as well as beautiful colors.

If you are allergic, or if you don’t have time to keep a plant, succulents are flowering plants that only need water every now and then, and they thrive on sunlight, while still providing bright colors to brighten the day.

National Water a Flower Day is a great holiday to introduce to kids, too. For kids, it teaches them about plants and how they help our environment.

On May 30, if you see a flower and happen to have water on you, don’t forget to water it as a way to say thank you to Mother Earth for providing such beauty.
