A day to love and learn about Goth style.

What do you picture when you hear the words “Goth person”? Is it a person dressed in all black, or a depressed individual? Truthfully, goths are people who listen to a specific type of rock music, hate the world, and can see beauty in dark clothes. The Cure is actually an example of a Goth band, and May 22, World Goth Day, is a day to celebrate the culture.

Even if you do not relate to the Goth tone, you can celebrate this day in a number of ways. You can watch a movie such as Beetlejuice (1988… the sequel’s date has yet to be announced), Edward ScissorHands (1990, or the sequel from 2015), or any Tim Burton movie, as well as reading gothic literature such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897) and or Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights (1846).

While Goth entertainment has been around a long time, there’s no time like the present to celebrate World Goth Day. Why not get active at a small party (with COVID precautions, of course). If you choose to go to a party, you must dress accordingly. Visit Trends of Gothic Fashion to find out more about subgenres of Gothic Fashion, as well as fact vs myths of goths. I truly appreciate the many alternative fashion and music styles and culture that comes with it.
