Europe Day on May 9 is a day of recognition, a day that recognizes the diversity of the world’s second smallest continent. It is a celebration for peace and unity in Europe.

The original European Union was created in 1950 by the French Minister Robert Schuman. Following the struggles of World War II, the Europe Institution opened their doors to help out their neighboring countries. (Europa.eu) Now, every year in May, they celebrate Europe Day with a set of various activities, debates, concerts, and other events.

The modern European Union (EU) was created in November of 1993, but the foundation had been laid for a unification of the countries in the middle of that century. At the start of 2020, seven decades after Schuman’s first proclamation, Europa.eu says that the EU institutions paid tribute to the numerous online activities that were held throughout Europe during the Coronavirus crisis.

May 9, 2021 marks the 71st anniversary of the Schuman’s declaration, also known as The Europe Institution. Citizens in Europe dedicate the whole day to their culture, and praise their peace and unity.
