What’s up with this National Day, Doc?

National Bugs Bunny Day – April 30

Grab your carrots and say “What’s up, Doc?” because on April 30 we celebrate the iconic cartoon trickster Bugs Bunny on National Bugs Bunny Day.

Created at the Warner Brothers Studio, Bugs Bunny was the product of many animators but most noticeably Ben Hardaway, who labeled a sketch with the popular name. He was featured in some cartoons as early as 1938, but not as the character we know today. It took a team to build Bugs personality and appearance before finally being released in “A Wild Hare” in 1940 as a more finalized version (Bugs Bunny).

From there, Bugs Bunny devolved into the snarky charismatic bunny we know and love. He became a popular favorite among the Looney Tunes cast of Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Tweety Bird. From iconic phrases like “What’s up, Doc?” and his elaborate pranks, Bugs Bunny has become one of the most beloved cartoon characters second to Mickey Mouse (Bugs Bunny).

On National Bugs Bunny Day, why not watch classic episodes of the original Looney Tunes cartoons or try the newly released series featuring the lovable characters. On Boomerang, the “New Looney Tunes” is the 2015 series featuring three seasons. Recently on HBO Max the “Looney Tunes Cartoons” was released in 2020 with a new revamped art style.

This National Bugs Bunny Day celebrates the original prankster and his 83 years of entertainment.
